Edwards at the MoveOn Climate Change Townhall

From MoveOn

Last night, through Al Gore's Live Earth concerts, 2 billion of us rallied to stop the climate crisis. Now, it's time to change more than our light bulbs, it's time to change our leaders.

That's why we're holding our Virtual Town Hall on the climate crisis. All eight of the Democratic presidential candidates responded to MoveOn members' questions about global warming. Now, it's time to watch their responses and weigh in on which one has the best plan.

Watch John Edwards answer three questions at the Live Earth / MoveOn Climate Change Townhall.

The three questions for John Edwards were:

How does your plan on climate crisis differ from other candidates'?

Edwards Answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nulc0WwPiXo

Would you auction carbon emissions rights and then use the proceeds to develop new energy alternatives?

Edwards Answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8-ksx9rCQI

How will Americans, not just corporations, benefit from new energy economy?

It's funny (none / 0)

watching Obama pretend as if his position hadn't changed in a matter of weeks.

Re: you left out (3.00 / 2)

I don't take Gravel seriously, he's not running a real campaign.  He just shows up to the debates.  As far as I know Other and None were not interviewed by MoveOn.

Re: you left out (none / 0)

Is Kucinich serious? We should not be acting like the MSM.

It is unfair to not include Gravel when he is a declared and legal candidate.

None should have been an option.

Other is my preference.

Re: you left out (3.00 / 1)

if I were a declared and legal candidate, should I be included in these polls and debates?

If a candidate isn't running (none / 0)

and the only campaigning done is showing up for debates, I say it's time for that candidate to drop out.

Re: Edwards at the MoveOn Climate Change Townhall (3.00 / 2)

Notice the answers to the coal questions on the League of Conservation Voters scorecard: everyone but Hillary and Obama is strong on making that industry accountable.  Hillary and Obama, the big city candidates, are, predictably, bought and bossed.  Richardson is really impressive on energy, as is Edwards.  It seems Obama found out their position before answering their questions.  Just look at the scorecard: his policy is shaped by those he knows create issue scorecards, not by creative research or any form of original thought.  But notice how he and Hillary deviated on coal.

I just want someone to lead; I do not want someone whose positions conveniently cohere with an interest group.  That is why Edwards and Richardson are leading on Energy Policy; they actually thought about it.  And at least they are not beholden to Big Coal.  Clinton and Obama are, and that is unfortunate.

Edwards and Richardson win on energy hands down.  There are no if, ands or buts.  They win.  Period.

Re: Edwards at the MoveOn Climate Change (none / 0)

But the sad part is that it's doubtful many Hillary and Obama supporters even know WHERE their candidates stand on climate change.
Before signing on with Edwards, most of his supporters FIRST checked out his policies and solutions. There were no PR and marketing strategists luring us to Edwards with schemes like Obama Girl and Mafia videos. Just the issues and SOLUTIONS.

But now that it's becoming more evident that Obama's and Hillary's policies are written by DC Centri$t policy wonks, I've noticed Obama supporters especially attempting to equate Obama's policies with Edwards!
And Hillary supporters claiming just any old Dem will be just fine with them!
Holy Moly!

Wow (3.00 / 7)

I'm an Edwards fan but was nonetheless surprised by the fluency and depth of his responses. It shows what he can do when he has 2-3 minutes rather than the 1 minute you get in debates.

Re: Edwards at the MoveOn Climate Change Townhall (3.00 / 3)

The votes are quite clearly partisan in the above poll.  ;-)

This is one area that the Democratic candidates have to lead on and have to take on the industries that pollute.  We cannot leave this problem for our children.  Melissa Ethridge was phenomenal in the Live Earth concert.  The one part that really stood out for me was her talking about being in the eighth grade than thinking that it would all be solved by the time she was an adult.  How we have squandered the time and opportunity!  We need leaders on this issue.  In my book Edwards is the best.  Richardson also presents strong positions but I just don't like many of his other policies and think he would be an awful president.
